Billionaire Marc Andreessen Breaks Records with $177M Purchase of Malibu Compound

Updated: Mar 4

Marc Andreeson Malibu House

In a historic deal, venture capitalist Marc Andreessen has paid USD$177M (AUD$236M) for this exclusive 7-acre Malibu compound. Edging out the California sale record of $165 million held by Jeff Bezos, this property is now the 2nd most expensive real estate sale ever in the US behind Citadel founder Ken Griffin’s purchase of 220 Central Park South Penthouse for an eye-watering USD$238 million.

Andreessen’s new compound features multiple guest houses, guardhouses, a swimming pool, box garden, tennis centre, equestrian centre, gym, cinema and spa.

Malibu Beach, dubbed the ‘Billionaire beach’, still proves to be the destination of choice for A-list celebrities and hyper-successful businesspeople. Andreessen’s new neighbours include Courteney Cox, Lady Gaga, Di Caprio, Caitlyn Jenner, Robert Downey Jr., Mel Gibson and plenty more.

Serge Azria was identified as the seller, and the fashion tycoon bought the property in 2013 for a cool USD$41 million, bagging himself approximately USD$136 million during his residency of eight years. There are not many known facts about the house itself as it has remained a private, mysterious Malibu compound for years with an extremely limited number of photographs ever taken…
