Construction of the World’s Largest Superyacht is Underway

Updated: Jan 27

Due to hit the seas in 2024, Somnio is a 728 foot (222 metre) luxury superyacht the likes of which no one has ever seen. It is currently under construction at VARD in Norway.

The idea has been brought to life by Winch Design from the UK in partnership with Tillberg Design from Sweden. At an approximate cost of nearly AU$800 million, the world’s first yacht liner will actually offer residences in a “hyper-exclusive oceanfront community” that are only available for purchase by invitation or referral only.

Somnio will be fitted out with 39 hyper-luxurious apartments spread out over six floors. The starting price is rumoured to be around AUD$14 million, and due to only being accessible by invitation, you can imagine the sort of hyper-successful elite crowd being asked to snap up one of the residences.

The apartments will have all the typical facilities you’d find in an opulent hotel, including a fully-equipped kitchen, inside and outside dining spaces, dressing rooms, a library and a gym. In addition to this, communal facilities include a lounge in the ship’s bow, bars, restaurants, 10,000-bottle capacity wine cellar and tasting room, onboard beach club, water sports facilities, and concierge services catering for every possible need.

Co-owners of Somnio will embark on the journey of a lifetime. A “never-ending itinerary” is in place for all those who seek a luxurious life among the seas. The ship is set to hit all corners of the globe ranging from the Mediterranean to New York City, across the Pacific and even an expedition to Antarctica.

Keep your eyes peeled for the 222-metre spectacle of the seas in 2024 and beyond.
