Porsche Taycan Turbo S: An EC Review

Updated: Jan 27

PORSCHE TAYCAN TURBO S

Meet the perfect business casual car. The 2021 Porsche Taycan Turbo S is the silent but deadly cousin of the 911, and packs the same punch. The exterior body is slick and aerodynamic with soft curves. The inside moulds luxurious comfort with a need for speed. The Taycan Turbo S is capable of reaching 100km/h in just 2.9 seconds, matching that of the top 911 models but you’ll need to fork out a substantial $337,900 in order to experience full throttle of this electrical demon. In what is essentially Porsche’s first fully electric motor vehicle, the Turbo S goes about its business seemingly entirely silent (seriously, seriously silent.) Weighing in at 2.3 tonnes, this thing can move.

Wrap-up of the Specs Speed: 0-100km in 2.9 seconds Base Taycan prices: $190,000 Turbo S price: $337,900 Transmission: Two-speed auto planetary gear set and single-speed reduction gear Battery: 93.4kWh lithium-ion Safety Rating: Five Star (NCAP 2019)

Under the hood A single-deck lithium-ion dual-deck battery offering 93.4kWh of output provides a range of 405km (according to the WLTP testing for Porsche Cars.) Charging your new Taycan Turbo S will take around four hours on a 22kW wall charger and 20 minutes on a high-output 350kW fast charger. If your access is limited to a standard household powerpoint, be prepared to wait 39 hours for your Turbo S to reach full charge. Thanks to its twin magnet synchronous motors generating 560kW of power, the Turbo S can accelerate for 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds (approx.) with a maximum speed of 16,000rpm and 260km/h. She can go from 0-200km/h in 9.6 seconds, faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo.

Inside A 16.8 inch curved digital display screen acts as the centrepiece to the cars convenient heartbeat. A climate/ancillary control screen is placed just below the main control system and a passenger touch directly in front of the front passenger seat is an optional extra for another $2150. Four USB-C ports and adjustable heated and cooled sports seats are just a few of the new features offered in the Turbo S. Fancy some 90’s rock while cruising at 110 down the Pacific Highway? It sounds a lot better in the 14-speaker Bose stereo. Block the noise and the outside climate with your thermal insulated tinted glass windows too. A spacious 447-litre boot is something that isn’t often seen in a Porsche (excluding SUV’s) and at 4.96 metres long, four adults can fit moderately comfortably, however, five is a stretch.

Outside The body of this car is dreamy. Porsche managed to blend business and casual together seamlessly. Leading the car are automatic adjusting LED matrix headlights which slide nicely into the endless soft corners. Porsches’ rear LED brake strip stretching the width of the rear sits just above the badge. While we appreciate the body, it sits on four 21-inch ‘Mission E’ alloy wheels with 420mm front and 410mm rear ceramic composite disc brakes, distributing impressive and highly-effective stopping power.

Porsche’s attempt at the smart casual sedan has been executed phenomenally in the form of the Taycan Turbo S. It moves just as well as a traditional sports track car and offers the comfortability of a luxurious, lengthy road trip-worthy sedan.
